Pete the Planner’s Holiday Savings League is back for 2012

I have always loved the holiday season. But I REALLY started loving it when it didn’t result in me hating my financial life in January and February. If you are anything like me, then you have been a victim of your own love for your loved ones. In other words, you spent too much money on gifts, and then you had to scramble to pay for it in January and February.

In fact, I am so committed to your financial success and joy that I’m willing to reward you for doing the right thing. If you commit to following our Holidays Savings League program, then you will be eligible to win a new iPod, $50 gift cards, and any of our other prizes that all told add up to over $1000. However the best prize of all (for which you are all eligible) is that you won’t be paying for your 2012 holiday spending in 2013.

The best way to fund your holiday purchases is to start setting money aside in September. I’m not talking about mentally setting money aside. I’m talking about cash money. In order to participate in Pete the Planner’s Holiday Savings League you must withdrawal cash every month until the end of the year. That means that you are making FOUR withdrawals if you are joining the League in September.

Place the cash in an envelope. Put the envelope in a safe place. When you go shopping for gifts this holiday season, take your envelope and use it. DO NOT GO OVER BUDGET.

The entire point of the Pete the Planner Holiday Savings League is to make holiday spending easier on you. You need to establish your holiday budget right now. Take a few minutes to consider how much money you can afford to spend this coming holiday season.

This is literally the most important part of the program. By setting a spending goal now, then you are better able to set money aside for your holiday spending. If you can’t afford to pre-fund your holiday spending over a period of four months, then you sure can’t afford to spend that much money. See? You will make a wise budgeting decision by simply taking the time to figure out your holiday spending now. And you will do all of this without going into debt. Going into debt to pay for gifts is a really bad idea. Pete the Planner doesn’t like bad ideas.

The best way to establish a budget is by thinking through your “buy-for” list, and then setting a budget for each person. For instance, 10 people @ $50 each equals $500.
